Salamat Salabat!
Saturday, September 5th, 2009I never tried this spicy ginger tea before nor have I ever heard of it until Reading Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangre .. Curiosity aroused by the “drunken happiness” offered by Salabat I asked my girlfriend what the heck is Salabat? Is it a spirit? hard liquor? I hadn’t heard of it.
Next day I see these weird lookin roots on the counter.. I ask my girlfriend, what are those?! Potato roots?

Ginger root- the makings of Salabat
Salabat Ginger Tea
Makes 2-3 servings
3 cups water
3 tablespoons brown sugar
5-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan over high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, then simmer for 10 minutes.
I’ve been drinking this stuff all week, and I can’t wait for another week!

check out this geek girl, who posts on the benefits of Salabat.
“There’s nothing to compare with salabat, drunk in the morning before going to mass,” said Capitana Tika Character in Noli Me Tangere (The Social Cancer)
